Enjoy Your Kids: Play, Live, & Love Intentionally

Since I am blessed to be able to stay home with my kids, play with them, and learn alongside of them everyday, I work hard to be intentional about helping them get as much out of their childhood as possible. I want to enjoy my kids and help you enjoy your kids.

After all… they’re only young once.

When we heard about the #MilkLife Challenge, we knew we had to join in. Have you checked out Milk on Facebook lately? They’re challenging families to get out there and milk life – be intentional and get everything you can out of your together time. Family is important; let’s milk life together!

We’ve tried a few of the challenges so far {head to the page, check out that day’s challenge, and set out on an adventure with your kids}. Two of our favorites have been Challenge 17: Milk Movie Night and Challenge 22: Chalk it Up.

Challenge 17: Milk Movie Night

Movie nights are pretty run-of-the-mill for most families. You grab some snacks, pop in a DVD or stream something from Netflix, and settle into the couch together.

We decided to shake things up a bit to fully milk the night for all we could.

Popping a big bowl of popcorn, and watching a family-friendly movie is something we do often, but this time we added the extra fun of a Disney Planes inspired activity. We had a “fly-in” movie with another family, taking some time to make airplanes out of cardboard boxes and colored duct tape.

The kids plopped themselves in the cockpit of their planes, pulled up to the screen, and watched Disney Planes Fire & Rescue while eating loads of yummy snacks.

We had SO much fun! And, the creativity that emerges when you let your kids loose with bits of materials is awe-inspiring. Kids rock – plain and simple.

Challenge 22: Chalk it Up

The chalk it up milk life challenge started off as expected – dumping chalk onto the driveway and marking off the hopscotch game – but then my kids’ creativity ran away with them.

We hopscotched for a bit, but the girls were more interested in chalking up the driveway and sidewalks with roads and houses for their tiny toy dolls and figures. They created a city that took over our neighborhood, and invited friends and passersby to join in their play. It was a joy to watch.

Letting them go off on their own, following rabbit trails, can take some courage. It’s always worth it in the end, though. Real learning and fun takes place during the times we veer off the expected path.

Childhood is Precious

As we were completing these challenges, I was reminded how precious childhood is. Kids grow up so quickly – it was just yesterday that I became a mommy for the first time, and now that sweet little guy is almost as tall as me and will become a teenager this year. Whew!

I’m conscious of those growing bodies, and their need for nutrients that fuel their energy as well as their creativity. Including milk in their breakfast routine is a wonderfully easy option that helps me get nine essential nutrients, including eight grams of protein, in each 8-ounce glass they drink. Protein power to get them kick-started, and ready to play! And they love it.

Which of the challenges on the Milk Life Facebook page will you and your family embrace? Share your photos on their page for your chance to win fun prizes, and come back here to let me know what you’ll be doing this summer to milk life fully!
