Free Resource Friday: Lapbook Lessons

Free Resource Friday

By now you know that we’re always looking for new ways to engage the kiddos. My easily distracted, wiggly, sometimes-crazy bunch crave novelty… and so do I.

I was so excited to discover lapbooking early in our homeschooling. I’ll probably post again about specific lapbooks we’ve done at some point, but if you’ve ever looked for easy to use and FREE materials to fill lapbooks of your own, you need to check out Lapbook Lessons.

A little bit of background for those of you that don’t know what a lapbook is: Lapbooks are simply unique ways to present material students have learned. Typically, they are made from file folders and cardstock and contain several minibooks filled with information about a topic.

What I love about them is that they allow you to present material in bite-sized pieces. It’s not too much to ask Trevor to fill out a mini flip book with short facts about different types of pirates through history (a lapbook we’re creating as we explore right now—will share printables with you soon). But… ask him to write a comparative essay about pirates through history and witness mutiny!

You can purchase ready-made lapbook kits from various online sellers (and we do sometimes if there is a topic we really want to study – most come with mini books, readings, and research already completed), but you can find great FREE lapbook templates and minibooks at Lapbook Lessons.

The possibilities really are endless… We love them!

Valerie at Lapbook Lessons hosts a Members Forum (also free!) where you can join and share ideas with *thousands* of creative lapbookers from around the world. Chances are, if you’re looking for a lapbook on a topic, someone there has already tried it.
