Finding Mommy Time During the Busyness of Vacation
Family vacations aren’t always relaxing for moms, so I was thrilled to have the chance to work with Collective Bias, Inc. and its advertiser on the new campaign to #FeelInvigorated #FeelGlade and enjoy some “mommy time” on our recent trip thanks to new Blue Odyssey candle by Glade® and #CollectiveBias.
When I’m home I can usually find ways to sneak a bit of “mommy time” in. Whether it’s a simple walk around the block, a hot bubble bath with my favorite Blue Odyssey candle by Glade® burning, or just hiding in the closet with my secret stash of dark chocolate, I can sneak away for the few minutes this introverted soul needs to recharge.
But, on vacation, it gets a little trickier since we’re all off our routines, and in new – and often smaller – places. This last vacation, though, was different.
When we began planning our trip to the Chautauqua Institution so I could teach a class for their Young Scholars program over a year ago, I promised that I would make time for myself to recharge, reinvigorate myself, and embrace my creativity in new ways.

I knew the kids would be tired out after walking the grounds, swimming in the lake, playing with new friends, and exploring the woods and ravine, so I planned a little retreat for myself in the evenings – and I highly recommend you do this for yourself sometime.
My retreat nights began around 10:00 p.m. when my night owl tween finally went to bed (my husband was early to bed too during the trip). Since our cottage apartment was so beautiful, quiet, and peaceful, it wasn’t tough to picture myself all alone and relaxed. I enjoyed a nice soak in the tub with the bath bomb and handmade sugar scrub from my gift box, then snuggled into my favorite superhero shirt and warm sweats.

Just sitting there in silence for a few minutes was heavenly, and I highly recommend it for those of you raising intense kids like me, ones with learning differences, twice exceptionalities, and sometimes anxiety. It’s a challenging – and exhausting – life.
And it can tap your creativity.
I set my tea down to break into my new gold-stamped journal with my favorite pens. Now, I don’t know what you do to relax, rejuvenate yourself, or fuel your passions, but I write. I write stories, facts, observations punctuated by little (not-so-great) sketches. I write by hand, on the keyboard, or anywhere I can. I write or I read – anything and everything. My passion is the written word – creating it and enjoying what others have created.
