Host an Epic Family Movie Night

Life has been extremely busy and go-go-go since our two oldest kiddos joined the ranks of “theater kids” a few months ago. Our daughter has gotten deeply involved with musical theater and has started taking voice lessons, and our son is loving dramatic theater and has a new show opening soon.

One of the best things we did to foster their love of the theater, and to give them a bit of autonomy (while giving me peace of mind) was to get them started on a new phone plan from Walmart Family Mobile. The plus plan — with its Samsung Galaxy On5 (regular price is $119, but we got ours for $69 on Rollback), and Unlimited Talk, Text, & Data (up to 10GB of 4G LTE then 2G plus a free VUDU movie credit every month ($7 value) per line) for $49.88 was an amazing and economic fit for us. Since Family Mobile bills us later, we only had to pay $19.88 when we signed up by buying the SIM kit in the store. Disclaimer: All prices for phones and plans included in this post are accurate as of the date of posting; however, these prices are subject to change. With that plan in place for our nine year old, and an older plan from Walmart Family Mobile still in place for our fourteen year old, the kids can keep in touch AND work on some of their schooling or read on their eReader apps in between scenes and acts. It’s such a great fit for our family. And has been such a smart use of tax refund money… right? It’s nice when there’s a little extra to spend on helping the family become stronger.

And that free VUDU movie credit? Icing on the cake.

We just redeem our credit and easily stream it through our Smart TV — instant family movie night!

Planning an Epic Family Movie Night Concession Stand

Since we’ve been going every which way lately — you know that “divide and conquer” kind of rut parents of big families find themselves falling into? — we were so thrilled that we had to use our monthly movie credit the other day. While the kids discussed (ahem… argued over) their movie rental choice, I sneaked into the kitchen to prepare some fun.

Earlier in the day I’d given them a strip of tickets that I’d picked up at Walmart with a bunch of movie concessions. My plan was to set up a concession stand that they could “buy” their treats from, and it so much fun that the kids are already planning our next movie night. They want me to implement ways they can earn additional tickets throughout the month so that when we get to movie night, they have more “currency” to use on snacks.

Whatever works, right?

Our concession stand included these movie treats from Walmart:

I spread it all on a table covered in a festive tablecloth with a tri-fold board behind it, decorated with a banner. You can easily recreate this at home and spread some of your own magic for your kiddos.

What kinds of things do you do to make movie night special for your kiddos?
